Georges Omerth bronze sculpture on marble of a nurse caring for a soldier. Active during the years 1895 to 1925, Georges Omerth is a French bronze sculptor who was both talented and enigmatic; very little is known about his life. An artist whose private life did not prevent his signed works from reaching us, his pieces on the theme of militaria are rare and highly sought after. This one is presented as grievously wounded, bandaged with his helmet and weapon on the ground, leaning against a ruin. The details of this work may suggest a nascent Art Deco style, with geometric movements reflected in the folds of the clothing and their postures.

Set on an oval green marble pedestal and topped with the bronze group, the terrace is signed G. Omerth, depicting the realism of the conditions of this dark period in European history: the Great War of 14-18 and its lack of resources, its mass slaughter, and the hell that these men and women had to endure, especially the ruin it brought. A true critique, this sculpture highlights the stark reality of life in the trenches and at the front. Where the lies of propaganda wanted to make it seem that these men, proud and valiant war heroes, lived in good conditions and were treated with dignity, in reality, they were mere pawns, with everything needing to be rationed: medicine, food, equipment.
