Rare George Lavroff Clock in Silvered Bronze, Marble & Onyx, Art Deco, Signed

  

For sale: Rare and very beautiful clock made of veined brown onyx, veined yellow marble, silvered bronze, and white marble. 1925, "The Muse with Little Faun Musicians," by George Lavroff.

Complete and all original - with its original key. Silvered bronze dial with modernist decoration. Original blue steel hands in Skyscraper shape.

Original 8-day pendulum movement, needs servicing. Lavroff, at the back on the base of a putto. Very slight chips on the onyx - nothing serious.

The original silvering is present - light wear. Length: 54 cm - Height: 44 cm - Depth: 13.5 cm. Georgui Dimitrievitch Lavrov, known as Lavroff. He studied under painter D.

Karatonov in Krasnoyarsk before entering the medical faculty of Tomsk University. Alongside his studies, he attended drawing and painting classes at the Tomsk Artists' Society until the October Revolution. From 1922, Lavroff exhibited in Moscow where he became a member of the Association of Revolutionary Artists of Russia.

From 1927 to 1935, he was sent to France to enhance his artistic knowledge and promote Soviet art among his French communist peers. Lavroff then showcased his works at art salons, such as the Salon des Indépendants and the Salon d'Automne in Paris.

He became known for his numerous animal sculptures cast in bronze and ceramic by publishers like Marcel Guillemard. Returning to Moscow in 1935, he became an official artist and created monumental sculptures and busts of Soviet leaders. An exhibition dedicated to him was held in Moscow in 1982.
