Vincenzo Cinque, Bronze Child Bust, Marble Base, Naples, 19th Century, Liberty Style

  
Height: 50 cm; Width: 22 cm; Depth: 13 cm; Weight: approximately 15 kg. An imposing and majestic bronze bust with partial gilding, resting on a marble base. It depicts a young Neapolitan water or wine carrier, carrying flasks on his shoulders. Made in the Art Nouveau style, it dates from the late 19th or early 20th century.

The sculpture has a beautiful, clearly visible patina. This patina, with brownish tones, was chemically achieved, while the gilding appears to be mercury plating rather than electroplating. The gilding is straw yellow, opaque due to the thick patina, and not orange-yellow like electroplated gilding.

Notice the two flasks draped over the boy’s shoulders, connected by a braided cord resting on his back.
